As an entrepreneur, you’ve decided it’s time to hire some help so you can lead your business into the future and project growth. You’re excited about the decision and can't wait to start your search. A sense of fear begins to set in as you try to decide what type of help you need and, more importantly, where you’ll find the right person who will share your vision.

Most all of my clients have faced this same fear when they began their search for assistance. As we began our relationship, there was some initial hesitation and it took a few weeks before that trust factor was established.

Here are three steps to help prepare you for receiving assistance with your business and give you a sense of empowerment about your decision:

1. Emotionally, you have to completely let go. I produce a newsletter for most of my clients. Two of them worry each month -- not about my ability to produce their newsletter, but the fear of rejection when it goes public. It never seems to fail that something goes wrong during production, which further fuels their fears. We are our own worst critics, but we need to learn to give ourselves some slack. In order for you to be successful in your business, you need to believe in yourself.

2. You should have some idea of why you want to hire an assistant and what you’d like to delegate to him or her. Don't just say, "I need help" and then immediately hire someone. You’ll need to do some homework first to maximize the value of your relationship.

3. Put processes in place now to avoid overworking later. In one of my recent articles, I proposed the idea of what would happen if someone wanted to buy your business today. Could you clearly define your day-to-day operations? If your answer is no, then how can you expect your assistant to understand what to do? You need to document the tasks you perform. Putting steps in place now will make delegating tasks that much easier in the future. If you need help mapping out your steps, be sure to visit the “Tools” section below.

It takes some time to build a relationship with someone new, but following these steps should make your relationship stronger and provide you with much needed relief for your business.

1. Communication: Understanding The Non-Verbal Art Form Of Body Language By Kurt Hurley
"He, who knows, does not speak. He, who speaks, does not know." -Lao TzuFundamentally, communication is expressed in verbal form. The conveyor, or he or she that is expressing, talks or writes while the recipient listens to or reads the transfer. However, there is another form of communication based on gestures or body movements. This art of non-verbal communication is better known as body language.Although spoken communication is the more direct way to convey a message or point of view, it ca…

2. Avoid the Tendency to Underestimate Your Greatness By Josh Hinds
As a whole I think there is a sad tendency in most of us to underestimate just how powerful we are. Just how much greatness lies inside each and every one of us - just waiting to get out. The reality is if you knew just how special you were - and how much greatness went into making you the unique you that you are I'm convinced you'd immediately know that nothing can truly keep you from achieving that which you want in your life. The journey is not always an easy one - very little of lasting or …

3. What in the HECK can a Personal Coach Do? By Aurelia Williams
I just wanted to spread the word about Life Coaching and what it can do to help just about anyone. No, not every coach is suited for every client but the right coach/client combination is such powerful tool.I hear different variations of the following questions and statements a lot: "What can a coach do for me?", "I can't afford to pay a coach!", "What does SHE know that I don't know?", "I don't need a stinkin' Coach!" Ok, well I tossed the word "stinkin'" in there (smile) but I do know there …

4. The Story “From the Chicken Coop”™ By Ted Borgeas
Many years ago my grandfather, had a small farm and chickens. One morning he sent me out to the chicken coop to collect fresh eggs. He became concerned when I didn’t return after a shot interval. When he came looking for me I jumped with joy, but he saw tears in my eyes and noticed that I was in an adjacent empty chicken coop, which could be entered only through the same door as the occupied coop. When he noticed my distress and asked, “What was wrong?” I told him tearfully, “that nasty rooster…
